Arabian Horse Pictures

Numerous Arabian horse pictures and carvings prove that this breed is the oldest in the world. Originated as a necessity for living in the desert, nowadays, these horses are bred as a matter of prestige. Only very rich people can afford a luxury of owning a purebred Arabian horse. The most part of the world’s population of the Arabian horse is produced in the USA. The place of the breed’s origin is no longer the main center of Arabian horse breeding and trading. The purity of the breed maintained by strict religious regulation in the past is nowadays preserved by the World Arabian Horse Organization (WAHO) located in the USA.

Arabian horse pictures are very nice, but a purebred Arabian in person is a majestic sight. The main characteristics of the breed are finely chiseled bone structure, concave profile of the head, long and arched neck, level croup, and high-carried tail. The head of an Arabian is refined and wedge-shaped, with broad forehead, small muzzle and large eyes. These horses have a short compact body, deep hip and well laid back shoulders. Some Arabian horses have 5 vertebrae instead of 6, and 17 pairs of ribs instead of 18, which allow them to carry heavy loads with ease.

Arabian horse pictures feature animals of various heights. Nomadic tribes and Arabs bred smaller horses, but nowadays taller horses are more popular, that’s why Arabian horses are bred for increased height. Arabian horses come in a variety of colors, with bay being the most common. Other common colors are gray, chestnut, and roan. Black Arabians are very rare. There are many Arabians appearing white, but in fact they are gray with black skin and white hair.

It’s evident even from the Arabian horse pictures that many modern horse breeds have Arabian blood. The most famous of them are the English Thoroughbred, the Russian Orloff Trotter, the Franch Percheron, the American Morgan horse, and some others. Crossbreeding with Arabian horses is used from time to time to improve the health or appearance of many breeds, because the genes of purebred Arabians are always dominant and the result is evident in the next generation. Being used as a progenitor of many breeds, the Arabian horse is the only breed that remains unchanged for many centuries. It’s evident by comparing ancient and modern Arabian horse pictures.
